This conference will be organised by the European Society for Philosophy of Medicine and Healthcare (ESPMH) and the Finnish Society for Philosophy of Medicine
Focus

The focus of the conference is on nature of medicine and health care between science and humanities. Abstracts addressing the philosophical dimensions of the following topics can be submitted:
Nature of medicine*
Medicine between science and humanities
Philosophy and alternative/complementary medicine
Philosophy in medical education
Humanities in medical education
Medicine as a resource for philosophy
Philosophy as a resource for medicine
Literary representations of philosophy and medicine
Medicine and metaphysics
Aesthetics and other human values in medicine
The embodied human

By using the terms medicine and medical we do not intend to exclude nursing or other health care professions

Registration

A registration form will be circulated by the ESPMH Secretariat. Please return it to this Secretariat as soon as possible, but no later than 1 April 2006, including the registration fee, which should be transferred to the ESPMH treasurer according to the data provided on the registration form. The registration fee includes: 2 lunches, refreshments during breaks, welcome reception (Wednesday), reception at Villa Gyllenberg (Thursday), cruise and conference dinner (Friday) and an abstract book.
Registration Fee

The registration fee for participants who are not a member of ESPMH is more expensive.
Participants:

paid before April 1, 2006:
ESPMH member: 240.- euro
non member: 290.- euro

paid after April 1, 2006 :
ESPMH member: 255.- euro
non member: 305.- euro

Accompanying person:
paid before April 1, 2006 : 120.- euro
paid after April 1, 2006 : 130.- euro
Accommodation

The accommodation in Helsinki will have to be arranged by the conference participants themselves. Later on there will be information about hotels.
Social Programme

The following social activities will be offered:
Welcome reception on Wednesday (23 August)
Reception at Villa Gyllenberg on Thursday (24 August)
Cruise and conference dinner at the sea on Friday (25 August)
Abstract Book

The abstract book will be handed out in Helsinki upon conference registration. Full manuscripts can be submitted for publication in the ESPMH journal "Medicine, Health Care and Philosophy. A European Journal". Participants are invited to read the instructions for authors on the website of the Journal (http://www.springerlink.com) and to submit an appropriately prepared article for review.
